Independent Seaport Museum

Independence Seaport Museum’s boat shop, Workshop on the Water, is dedicated to the skills and traditions of wooden boat building and sailing in the Delaware Valley and the New Jersey shore. Visitors to the Seaport Museum can interact with the boat builders as they work on various projects.

Philadelphia Waterborne

Boat-Building in Schools is the original and cornerstone Philadelphia Waterborne program that has run consistently since the organization’s inception.

In partnership with the Camden Shipyard and Maritime Museum, Urban BoatWorks teaches middle and high school youth how to build wooden paddleboats, canoes, and kayaks. Since the program’s first year in 2009, 47 boats have been handcrafted and launched on the water.
